FLOWlock is a special type of flow contained within the WISEflow system, which is tailored to on-site examinations; the flow must be completed within a specific time frame, with only limited aids and materials permitted and the exam takes place under supervision. A FLOWlock exam takes place within the FLOWlock browser, which provides you with the necessary tools for completing your exam paper.
Before the real exam you can try out a demo flow in WISEflow.
To participate in a FLOWlock exam, you must download and install the FLOWlock browser. View the short video (no sound) with the few steps.
Download the FLOWlock browser through the System requirements tab in your profile settings. These can be accessed by clicking on your name in the top right corner.
When you have successfully accessed and tested the FLOWlock demo, you are ready to participate in a real FLOWlock exam.
In the "System requirements" tab, you will see whether your device is compliant with the minimum requirements for WISEflow in general and for exams in the FLOWlock browser specifically.
When you see a tick-mark at the lines, as seen on the picture above, your computer meets the basic requirements to install and run the FLOWlock browser.
If you are attending a flow, you can also download the latest version as shown below:
The minimum requirements for the FLOWlock browser
Windows
- Windows 7 or a more recent version of Windows
Note: It is no longer required to install Flash (WISEflow Update 2.11.1).
Mac
- *Mac OS/X 10.10 (Yosemite) or a more recent version (Guide to upgrading your Mac)
Note: It is no longer required to install Flash (WISEflow Update 2.11.1).
To start the FLOWlock browser from WISEflow for the first time, you must click a button to accept that the FLOWlock browser is launched through an “external protocol.” You will be asked to tick off whether you want to accept the “external protocol,” and by doing so you will not be asked to do this every time you launch FLOWlock.
Please be aware that some security programs (e.g. McAfee and Symantec) should be paused before starting the FLOWlock browser.
Try out a demo flow
Before the real exam you can try out a demo flow in WISEflow. You find the demo flows under the participant pane and beneath your personal flows:
In WISEflow there are three types of demo flows:
FLOWassign: Here you can test the upload of an assignment (PDF file).
FLOWmulti: Try out different multiple choice questions and if the flowlock browser is correctly installed (Starting the demo will close all running programs on the computer).
Note: Please be aware that we will simulate loss of internet connection during the test.
FLOWmulti: Tests with a set multiple-choice assignment containing the more advanced type of interactive questions.
FLOWlock: Try to write an assignment in a lock down browser. You can also try the webcam, drawing tool, and other tools available (Starting the demo will close all running programs on the computer).
Note: Please be aware that we will simulate loss of internet connection during the test.
It is recommendable to try a demo flow before a real examination to see if the software is installed correctly and to be familiar with WISEflow and the available tools.
To return to your personal flows click on Overview in the right upper corner.
