It is possible to export and import large amounts of items and assignments into the authoring enviornment. It is possible to import up to 500 items at once. While the import is running in the background, you will be able to continue working in WISEflow. A status page will keep you informed about the progress of the import. This article will demonstrate how the export and import of items and assignments works in the author tool.
In order to import or export assignments, you need to go to Assignments from the overview page and then click on Manage assignments.
In order to import or export items, you need to go to the Content Bank from the overview page and then click on Manage content bank.
Exporting assignments or items will create a JSON file which can then be added back into WISEflow. This explanation will exemplify how exports work with assignments but the steps are the same for items in the Content Bank.
Inside Manage assignments, you are able to select one or multiple assignments by ticking the boxes on the right hand side. If you want to select all assignments shown in the overview, tick the box at the top.
It is only possible to export 20 assignments / items at once.
Multiple assignments will be exported into one JSON file.

After you have selected the files you want to export and click on the Export button. You will then be asked to confirm the export.
After clicking Confirm, your export will be processed. Once the export has been finalised, you will find the JSON file in the Download section of your browser with a date and timestamp.
You are able to export multiple assignments in one file, so an imported file can contain more than one assignment.
To start the the process of importing one or multiple assignments into the Author tool, you need to go to Manage assignments.
From there, click on Import assignments.
This will bring you to the import status page. Click on the Import button to start the process.
If you want to import assignments which had been built in the current author tool, select WISEflow as the file type. If you are importing assignments from the legacy author tool (Assignments legacy), select Legacy WISEflow as the file type.
Once you have picked the file type, click on Select file and select the correct JSON file. You will then see the name of the selected file and you will also be shown how many assignments are included in the JSON file. Then click on Preview file content.
It is only possible to import up to 500 items at once. As assignments usually contain several items, make sure that your imported assignments do not contain more than 500 items.
This will bring you to the Import status overview page. You will see a list of the assignments that will be imported and you will be able to control if all or only individual assignments should be imported.
Once you have made any final adjustments, click on Import. You will be asked to confirm your import and can decide whether a timestamp tag should be added to the imported assignment(s).
Once you Confirm, your import will begin. You can continue working in WISEflow while your imports are being processed. You can always check the status of your import(s) from the Import assignments page, which you can access from Manage assignments.
By clicking the Refresh button, you will see the current status of your import. You can expand the view of a specific import to show the individual assignments and their import status. From there you can also immediately get to the imported assignments by clicking Open item in assignments. The status page will show any imports you have made in the last 2 weeks.
Your newly imported assignments will show up in the assignment overview as well.
