Authoring
Co-Authoring Safeguards
In addition to the already existing safeguard feature, where authors will see a warning message if they try to save a question that has been edited by another author in the meantime, this new feature will prompt a user if they attempt to edit an item that has been edited by another user in the prior 30 minutes. These measures are intended to help prevent authors working on the same material simultaneously. You can find more detailed information on safeguarding features when working with author groups in this article.
Mass Import in the Author Tool
The import functionality in the Author tool will be improved, making it possible to upload up to 500 items at once with a status bar to monitor import progress. You will be able to continue working in WISEflow while the import is running in the background. You can read up on importing of assignments and items here.
Question Types and Language Localisation
Any residual differences between the question editor categories, question types and configuration options in the legacy tool and the new author tool will be aligned. Furthermore, translations of any outstanding terms in the item editing interface have also been completed. You can read up on all available question types for FLOWmulti assignments.

Marking
Grade Submission Improvements
An enhanced marking overview screen to provide assessors with improved summary information about their marking work. The overview shows information about submitted grades, conflicting grades, failed grades, and an overall status (e.g. 15 out of 30 participants finalised). There will also be a progress bar summarising the assessor’s marking progress. It is possible to filter the overview and only submit all grades that are being determined with a co-assessor. You can find further information on the current and new features of the marking overview screen here.
Offline Assessment Tool
As a first step towards enhancing WISEflow’s offline marking capabilities, we will introduce a new combined export functionality where users can construct an export containing both a grading spreadsheet and participant submissions in a single zip file. The zip file will retain the ordering of participants in both the spreadsheet and the file structure to enable easy reference between the two. It will also now be possible to see co-assessor information in the downloaded spreadsheets. Read more about the new features here.
Additional Participant Information in Justification Request Overview
Two new columns that display a participant’s phone number and final grade have been added to the justification overview. The assessor can toggle the new columns on/off when selecting columns to customise the overview. Full details on responding to grade justification requests can be found here.
Start Page for Assessors with Flow Creation Privileges
On licences where the assessor role has been configured to be able to create flows (FLOWprovisional), the landing page at login will now be automatically set to the Marking tab (formerly Assessor tab) unless the individual user has specified an alternative.
Improvements to the grade justification process whereby it will be possible for the justification to be submitted proactively as a part of the grade submission process will be available with the minor release in April.

Support
Paper Lookup by File ID
Whilst WISEflow accepts local file submissions or those made by Dropbox, it is currently only possible to use the look up tool to find the former. With the new release we will close this gap by providing functionality to find the author of a paper via the file ID (associated with a Dropbox submission) as well as the existing paper ID. Usually available as part of the Support (previously Supporter) and Extended Support (previously Extended Supporter) roles, Paper Lookup can now be added as a permission to any other role. Please contact the Support team if you want this functionality be added to users on your licence.
FLOWjustification Archive Improvements
We have implemented a fix that means it will no longer be possible for flows with open justification requests to be archived.

Adjustments, Improvements and Maintenance
Language Improvements
We have reviewed terminology used across WISEflow and, for the March release, we will be making changes to the English terminology and language. You can see the list of terms that will change in this article.
We shall be updating all Service Centre articles to reflect the new terminology as soon as possible. Please bear with us as we make these changes.
Print FLOWmulti Assignment with Validation
When markers or managers want to print out the assignment of a flow, they can now decide whether the correct answers should be shown and printed as well. Authors can also print assignments with or without validation in the legacy authoring tool when they preview a published assignment.
API Token Improvements & New Security Concerns
We are improving the way verification of API tokens is being handled as well as the security of those tokens. Licence administrators will now be able to create and manage tokens via self-service.
Please be aware that new tokens will expire after one year and existing tokens will expire in two years! As of today, you will not receive a notification about the expiry of the tokens.
More information can be found in the Wiseflow API article.
Performance, Stability and Scalability Improvements
We are continually working behind the scenes to improve WISEflow’s performance, stability and scalability and in this release we have moved the user sessions from our database into Redis, a key value store.
New Cookie Policy for WISEflow
We have simplified our cookie policy for WISEflow, so the only cookies used after March 4, 2022 are necessary cookies.
We have over the last couple of years had requests and questions towards our use of Google Analytics. Up until now, we have only used Google Analytics anonymously, without any IP tracking and for internal use only. We have never shared any data with Google. But as the use of Google Analytics has raised too many questions and concerns and the latest EU court ruling has not been favorable, we have decided to stop using Google Analytics altogether.
This re-evaluation of our cookie policy as led to our decision to only use what are deemed necessary cookies. These include:
- Language Cookies: i18 & languageId (persistence)
- We use language cookies in order to secure that language preferences are kept and are consistent for a user logged into WISEflow.
- Session Cookies: PHPSESSID, JWT & wf-admin-login (temporary)
- We use session cookies in order to authenticate all requests made in a browser by any given user logged into WISEflow.
- User-centric Security Cookies: rldbbdw, rldbbdm, rldbbdi (temporary)
- We use user-centric security cookies to determine which version of the lockdown browser is used in WISElow.
- User Input Cookies: handin_in (temporary)
- We use user input cookies in order to determine whether a participant has made a submission in WISEflow.
As these cookies are deemed necessary and unharmful, they are exempted from consent under the European ePrivacy regulation, governing the use of cookies in the EU, including UK and Norway. However, we will, in line with the legal guidelines, showcase them together with our Privacy Policy upon first login into WISEflow. Users who do not accept these cookies cannot enter WISEflow. You can download our Cookie Policy here.
Get Started Guides
Our Service Centre has recently been enhanced to provide you with a comprehensive guide of helpful articles on using WISEflow. With all information now contained in the main articles, our Get Started Guides will be removed with the October Release 2022. We recommend that you download any of the guides before October: remember that you will also need to update them with any relevant changes to WISEflow. Here is a direct link to the guides in the Service Centre.
